Republican senators are pushing the Blunt Amendment, an all-out assault on President Obama’s historic health care reform. The amendment would let any employer deny coverage of any health care based on “moral convictions.”
This amendment goes even beyond trying to prevent women from using birth control. If your employer decided that your expensive cancer treatment violated their “moral convictions,” they wouldn’t have to cover it. Period.

For 25 years, hospitals have been required to provide the emergency care necessary to save a patient’s life. Now, under new legislation in the House of Representatives, hospitals could put the lives and health of women at risk. Their so-called “Protect Life Act” would allow hospitals to deny women emergency care to end life-threatening pregnancies.
